Immerse Yourself Into Canadian Nature and Wildlife at Parc Omega

Parc Omega

Wondering where you can hear howling wolves while you sleep, feed deer, and see baby bear cubs? You can do all this at Parc Omega. It’s a live museum that allows you to experience Canadian wildlife and nature firsthand. Their whole goal is to connect people with nature in the best way possible. There are over 2200 acres of natural habitat for you to explore.

About the Park

Drive through 15km of paths to explore Canadian nature and wildlife. While you drive through you’ll be greeted by friendly animals who are looking to say hi and get a carrot or apple.

Parc Omega

The park is located 1 hour from Montreal, Ottawa, Laurentian, and Tremblant. Parc Oméga lets you discover the wildlife of Canada within their natural environment. Whether you’re a local or tourist, I truly believe this is an experience everyone will enjoy and will connect you with Canadian nature. This is the goal of Parc Omega, to connect people with nature through an incredible, interactive experience. No matter the season it’s always a fun place to visit.

Parc Omega

The Park is open year-round and offers plenty of activities from driving through the park, shows, picnic areas, hiking trails, and overnight stays!

Animal Rehabilitation

One thing I love about Parc Omega is that it is also a place for animal rehabilitation. I learned that they work with the government to reintroduce animals into nature. Their moose, Brumeux, was brought to the park as an orphan calf over 8 years ago. He wasn’t able to be released back into the wild because of hunting but is happy at Parc Omega with his goat friend. They have released hundreds of animals back into nature 🙂

First Nations Trail

Walkthrough a 1km trail and learn about the history of 11 of the First Nations of Quebec. Along the path are signs where you can learn about each nation. The trail is stunning and I learned a lot about Quebec’s First Nations.

At the end of the trail, you’ll see this Thunderbird. It’s believed that when you walk under the wing of the Thunderbird, a symbolic emblem often represented in first nation groups, that you can make a reasonable wish that will come true.

Exploring the Park

I can’t say enough about how much I love this park. Every experience is different and exciting. I will never get tired of getting greeted by deer or seeing the wolf packs. As you travel through the park you’ll be able to see the different eco-systems of Canada:

The Meadow

Here you’ll see elk, red deer, white-tailed deer, fallow deer, coyotes, red fox, wild turkeys, and buffalo.

When you first get to the park you’ll be greeted by some friendly Elk. They’ll be collecting a toll (carrots) at the front 😉 Bonus of showing up early, you may get to see the Elk crossing the lake! It was so cool to see the elk families move from the hills through the water to their resting spot for the day on the mainland. They also set up “elk daycare” where all the baby elks go to one spot and one of the Mother Elks will watch them, so cute!

Parc Omega

Their bison are massive! You’re not supposed to feed them so I don’t even roll my window down, they’re that big! They’re harmless though and cool to see in person. You’ll often find them resting in the trees, grazing in the grass or walking as a herd.

Parc Omega

Once you make it to the meadow section of the park there’s a designated area where you can get out of your car and you’ll find plenty of deer. It’s a great spot to pet the deer and stop and have a picnic. You might even find a baby bambi here.

The Forest

In the forest, you find grey wolves, bears, moose, boar, squirrels, woodland birds, and raccoons. Seeing the wolves is my favourite part, especially the wolf pups! Make sure you go to a presentation at the wolf observation deck. From here you’ll be able to see the wolves up close and personal (but still safely). Below is a glass window where you can get close to the wolves and the adorable wolf pups, your heart will melt!  I got this show below at the viewing window. Above is the observation deck where you can see a live show where they call the wolves over for feeding.

The Mountain

Here you’ll see the Alpine ibex and bald-headed eagle. The Alpine ibex loves rocky areas and is a master climber! I often drive right through these guys, they tend to jump up for carrots. Besides, that everywhere in the park is great!

The Lake

You’ll find beavers, Canadian geese, turtles, ducks and the great blue heron. While we were there we were lucky to spot most of these animals except for the beaver.

Boreal Region

Here you’ll see the arctic wolves, arctic foxes, caribou and musk ox. The arctic wolves have such a striking appearance with their white fur and striking eyes. If you’re lucky they’ll be at the front posing for a photo.

Parc Omega

The arctic foxes are so tiny and adorable. You’ll often catch them napping or playing together.

Parc Omega

Parc Omega Farm

Here you’ll find all your classic farm animals from goats, horses, farm dog and more! Head to the garden and you’ll spot a peacock. If you’re lucky it will spread its feathers!

Parc Omega

Birds of Prey Show

At this show, you will learn about and see plenty of Birds of Prey including falcons, owls, vultures and more. They’ll fly to different pillars in the area so you can get a close look.

Tips:

  • What time to show up: get there early when the park opens at 9 am! It’s the best time to explore the park. This park is so big it will feel like you have it all to yourself. Bonus, you have the rest of the day to explore it.
  • What to feed the animals: Buy carrots from the park house for the animals. They’re from a local farm and the carrots are smaller than ones you would buy at the grocery store so they’re easier for the animals to eat. Otherwise you can bring carrots/apples for the animals (make sure the apples are cut up)
  • Lunch time: there are multiple picnic spots if you want to pack a picnic or you can get lunch at the park house.

Stay Overnight

This is such a unique and memorable experience! When you stay overnight you get special access to the wolf and bear boardwalk. This means you’re able to see the grey wolf pack and bears up close! The enclosures have many security features and frequent checks so you don’t need to worry about any overnight visitors 😉 Wake up to the best alarm clock, the howl of wolves. This is something you need to experience for yourself and one of my favourite parts of the park!

Parc Omega

They have multiple accomodation options from their tipis, prospector cabin, wi-tent, log cabin and house on stilts. I’d say it’s glamping in a great location and you don’t have to worry about sleeping bags, tent etc. and still get the comfort of a bed 🙂

Parc Omega Tipi

If you’re visiting the park I definitely recommend staying overnight. The wolf/bear boardwalk alone makes it worth it, but it’s also a great opportunity to disconnect and enjoy the great outdoors even more. Wind down for the night with a campfire before bed.

What to Pack

There’s a kitchen area that includes It includes microwaves, heaters, stoves, kettles, coffee makers, dishes and more. In addition, a sanitary block with showers and toilets is available at all times. Each site has a campfire area so I used it to make campfire nachos and s’mores, camping essentials! Parc Omega has a packing list here. I would also bring a portable charger and sunscreen.

How to Get There

It’s about an hour drive away from Ottawa. If you don’t want to use your own vehicle to go through the park you can rent one of their caged vehicles. Thank you to Jim Keay Ford Lincoln who powered my transportation for this trip. I drove the 2018 EcoSport around the park. It has a sunroof so my sister was able to take a selfie with the Elk, a popular photo many people in the Park were trying to get 😉 I also got photobombed by a deer below!
