Morris Island Conservation Area: Island Adventure in Ottawa

Morris Island Conservation Area

This little oasis on the outskirts of Ottawa is definitely worth a visit in any season. At Morris Island Conservation Area you’ll be able to catch some incredible waterside views full of islands and it’s also a great place to spot wildlife, especially deer.

This spot has quickly become my happy place and a go-to if I’m looking for a nearby adventure (I live in Carp so it’s a bit closer but definitely worth the drive if you’re downtown). There are 46 hectares of land and a water trail network that brings you to islands along the Ottawa River.

The water is so calm you can get stunning reflections in the water. Scroll through below to see some more photos of Morris Island.

Spot Wildlife At Morris Island Conservation Area

Keep an eye out for birds, turtles, foxes, deer and more. I’ll never forget walking back to the car after our adventure and seeing two deer run off with the sun going down behind them. All we could see was their silhouette moving through the trees. They were too far to snap a photo but it’s one of those scenes that stay with you forever. We also ran into a whole family of deer on our way out. Make sure to admire from afar to not scare the animals.
