5 Reasons Why I Want to Visit Mexico After Experience Mexico

Experience Mexico

Experience Mexico

I had such an amazing time last weekend at Ottawa Welcomes the World: Experience Mexico. It was a great opportunity to learn more about Mexico, its culture, gastronomy and various travel destinations. From the vibrant art, happy music, friendly people and delicious food, there are so many great reasons to visit Mexico. Experience Mexico taught me is that Mexico is a country full of wonders and treasures. There is something for everyone no matter what kind of traveller you are and there is certainly endless possibilities to intrigue your curiosity.

It has always been a location I have wanted to visit but this event gave me a better understanding of everything Mexico has to offer and I’ve certainly added more destinations within Mexico to my bucketlist.

Experience Mexico

Here are the five reasons I want to visit Mexico:

1) Art

Experience Mexico celebrated art from all over Mexico. I loved the vibrant colours and intricate details of the various pieces from jewellery, clothes and these beautiful wood carved figures made by Jacobo and Maria Angeles from Oaxaca, Mexico. I would love to see more of the art in Mexico and see how art is influenced in different areas.

They had piñata making workshops! I remember this being the highlight of every birthday party when I was younger.

2) Music

I loved all the music I heard this weekend! The music is so happy and instantly puts you in a good mood. While I listened I imagined myself strolling the streets of Mexico listening to the music and taking in the sights. The duo below got the crowd going with their rendition of La Bamba.

3) Culture

Everyone I met was so friendly and hospitable. They had so much to say about what they loved about Mexico and all the gems you can find in this country. When I asked people what there favourite part of Mexico was they had a hard time answering because there was so many things they loved and appreciated about their country. They were excited to be participating in Experience Mexico whether they were performing, representing a city, sharing their art and more.

 4) Diversity

Whether you’re looking for an adventure throughout Mexico, to take in the culture or want to relax at a resort, there is something for everyone. I learned so much about all the different areas and how you can plan a trip specifically tailored to your interests. Here are a few of the highlights that interested me:

Puebla

Puebla is rich in history and full of colonial buildings. Puebla is the home of many of Mexico’s museums including the Baroque museum. The gastronomy of Puebla is a fusion of multiple influences, which include European as well as Asian traditions. They are as delicious as they are eye-catching.

Oaxaca

Oaxaca is home of the Historical Center and Monte Alban Arachaeulogical Site, which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. gives a great look into Oaxaca’s history and their ancestors. I’m sure visiting this site would be an incredible experience.

San Miguel de Allende

This city is found right in the heart of Mexico and was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the Historical City category. After seeing pictures of this beautiful city and its 16th-century Spanish Colonial Baroque architecture, I understand why. All of Mexico looks so picturesque but this city looks like it has a special charm.

Campeche

You’ll find Campeche on the southeast side of mexico in the western portion of the Yucatan peninsula. The literal meaning of Campeche is “treasure”. Here you’ll find ancient Mayan cities like Calakmul. The Calakmul Biosphere Reserve is part of the second largest range of tropical forests in the world. There are tales of pirates at the port of San Francisco de Campeche.
Acapulco

Sight-see by day and then have a night out on the town taking in Acapulco’s nightlife and dance until dawn!

Velas Resorts

With resorts all over Mexico, it’s a great spot to relax and unwind in a beautiful country. Whether you’re looking for time away with friends, a romantic getaway or family vacation, they have something to fit everyones needs.

5) Gastronomy

I love Mexican food. The flavours and creations are absolutely delicious. All the food I tried at Experience Mexico was amazing and I can only imagine how amazing having authentic cuisine in Mexico would be. I also learned how each area of Mexico has a unique take on gastronomy influenced and inspired by the area. I was told that Mexican’s cook from the heart and that you’ll really feel those emotions in the dishes.

I also had the best margarita of my life at Experience Mexico this weekend! In Mexico you’ll also find the Mexican Tequila Route full of tequila distilleries!
