Best Places To See Blossoms in Ottawa

Hogs Back Falls blossoms in Ottawa

One of my favourite parts of spring is to see pops of colours around town with the Ottawa with fresh blooms around the city. First up, blossoms in Ottawa. Here are all the best spots to see cherry blossoms and magnolias around town.

My dream is to one day visit the cherry blossoms (sakura) in Japan. In Japan, cherry blossoms are a significant flower of spring and renewal. There is also the custom of hanami, to watch the blossoms. Something fun to keep in mind as you see the cherry blossoms here in Ottawa 🙂

Best time to see blossoms in Ottawa

Between April and May is the best time to see blossoms in Ottawa, depending on the weather. Late April/Early May is usually the best time to see them. The season is quick so make sure to go see them as soon as possible. Make a day of it by adding on an Ottawa picnic or sunset.

Best Route to See The Blossoms in Ottawa

Head to each one in a day or spread it out with lots of different adventures. Here’s the best route to see the cherry blossoms in Ottawa:

  • Next stop, Confederation Park
  • Head along the Rideau Canal to Dow’s Lake, followed by the Arboretum
  • End the day at Hogsback Falls and enjoy sunset

Blossoms in Ottawa at the Arboretum/Ornamental Gardens

This is my favourite spot to see cherry blossoms in Ottawa. The Arboretum has lots of different blossoms, and it’s the perfect spot to have a picnic. Head to Little Italy first, grab some takeout, and then walk over and find a good spot to enjoy it.

While you’re in the area, I recommend adding this restaurant in Little Italy. Kuidaore Izakaya will transport you to Japan with their indoor blossoms and delicious Japanese cuisine.

Hogs Back Falls

Not only will you see a stunning waterfall here, but it’s also an unexpected spot to see vibrant blossoms. You’ll pass them as you walk from the parking lot to the waterfall. Spend some extra time here and catch sunset.

Blossoms at the Canadian Museum of History

What’s great about seeing blossoms at this location is you’ll also get a view of the Ottawa River. It’s the perfect spot for a picnic and to take in the spring views. You can bike along the Ottawa River Pathway to the Voyageur Pathway to get here. You can also park somewhere close to the museum and walk over.

Blossoms in Ottawa along the Rideau Canal

Go for a walk or bike ride along the Rideau Canal this spring, and you’ll see a few displays of blossoms in Ottawa along the way. This is my favourite route to take to get to different blossom locations in Ottawa 🙂 You’ll spot the blossoms at Laurier Bridge, a beautiful tree close to Waverley, plenty on your way towards the glebe and more near the Fifth Avenue footbridge ⁣.

Blossoms in Ottawa at Major’s Hill Park

What’s unique about seeing cherry blossoms in Ottawa at Major’s Hill Park is that they’re a backdrop to a flowerbed of tulips. You’ll find them in front of the Notre Dame Cathedral.

Blossoms in Confederation Park

Enter the park from the canal, and you’ll spot a stunning cherry blossom tree. This is also a great spot for a picnic, or use this guide to find a nearby patio.

Blossoms in Ottawa at City Hall

This wouldn’t be my first recommendation, but if you’re in the area or passing through, why not check it out 🙂
